Ada Marie Montgomery
Ada Marie Montgomery, age 86, of Howard Lake, passed away
March 26, 2002, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Ada was born in rural South Haven, March 4, 1916, to Elieu
and Catherine (Fiedler) Nelson. She grew up in the South Haven and Annandale
area, and was baptized and confirmed there. She attended country school
south of Annandale, then Annandale High School.
At the beginning of her junior year, the family moved to
Howard Lake. Ada graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1934. She went
on to normal training (teachers program), and upon receiving her teachers
certificate, taught at Dutch Lake.
In June of 1941, Ada was united in marriage to Howard Montgomery.
Howard was in the service at that time. Upon his discharge, the couple made
their home first in Howard Lake while Howard worked for Gordon Judd, then
in the early 1950s, Howard took over the family farm and the couple began
their family.
While the children were young, Ada worked at the drug store
and then the Model Eat Shop in Howard Lake. She, later, went back to teaching,
first at Stockholm, Deer Lake (by Buffalo) and finally at Winsted Elementary,
retiring in 1976.
Ada had moved to town in 1971 after Howard’s death. After
retirement from teaching, she became a teachers aid at the Howard Lake School.
Ada was very active in her church. She belonged to the
Presbyterian Woman’s Association, and the Bible Study Circle. Ada and her
sister, Doris Albright, were especially close, and did many things together.

They sold tickets at school for all the athletic events.
They worked at entry day at the Wright County Fair, registering all the
entrants and, later, handing out prizes. They made quilts together, did
canning, gardening, and sewing.
Ada passed away at the Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia March
26, 2002. She had reached the age of 86 years and 22 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard;
an infant son; half-sister, Mae Rozenberg; and sisters, Anna Nelson and
Betty Munson
Survivors include her two sons: Robert (Laurie) Montgomery
of Rapid City, S.D. and Alan (Viann) Montgomery of Howard Lake; grandchildren,
Stacie Montgomery of Rapid City, Nathan Montgomery of Denver, Colo., Mindy
(Rob) Shulfer of Rockford, Marey (Michael) Woolhouse of Howard Lake, Matthew
Montgomery and Mitchell Montgomery of Howard Lake.
She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Marissa,
Madyson, and Kobey Woolhouse; sister, Doris Albright of Lake Park, and brother-in-law,
Vernon Munson of Benson.
A funeral service was conducted Saturday, March 30, 2002,
at 2 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Howard Lake, with the Rev.
Steven Shannon officiating. Music was provided by Patricia Munson, Albert
and Marlene Lorentz, and Bob and Luann Munson.
Stacie Montgomery, Mindy Shulfer, Marey Woolhouse, Nathan
Montgomery, Matthew Mont-gomery, and Mitchell Montgomery served as casketbearers.
Interment was at Howard Lake Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home
of Cokato and Howard Lake.
