Rebecca Dalbec
Rebecca Dalbec was suddenly called to her eternal rest
June 26, 2003, having reached the age of 91 years and 27 days.
Rebecca was born May 30, 1912 in Albion Township, Wright
County, Minn., the daughter of Henry and Irene (nee Zander) Mahlstedt.
She was baptized at the Bethlehem Evangelical Church, Albion
Township, and confirmed in her faith at that same church on April 10, 1927
by the Rev. C.H. Zeyher.
She was united in marriage to Edwin Dalbec at Bethlehem
Evangelical Church May 8, 1932, by the Rev. Wm. Wuerz. This union was blessed
with the birth of a son.
Rebecca and Edwin made their living on a farm near Buffalo,
and later moved to Howard Lake to run a grocery store. They made their home
in Howard Lake where Edwin also started a truck hauling business.
In 1937, they joined St. James Lutheran Church and Rebecca
became a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the Naomi Guild,
and assisted in the assembly of the church’s monthly newsletter.
She was a willing and active volunteer making quilts for
World Relief, singing at funerals, serving lunches and driving for those
who needed rides to church events and downtown.
In recent years, she was an active member of the Howard
Lake Senior Citizen’s Group. During Good Neighbor Days she helped organize
the Senior Citizen’s lunch and sale.
She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, baking cookies and
was especially happy to make things for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and
Irene Mahlstedt; husband, Edwin; son, Orville; two sisters, Francis Hoffman
and Helen Duske; three brothers, Max Mahlstedt, Fritz Mahlstedt, and Walter
Mahlstedt.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ruth Dalbec; five
grandchildren, Michael, David, Joseph, Shannon and Matthew Dalbec; three
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Reimer and Eliza Haag; one brother-in-law,
Ervin Haag; one sister-in-law, Ethel Mahlstedt; nieces; nephews; and a host
of relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, June 30, 2003 at St. James
Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Michael Nirva officiating. The
organist was Nancy Butterfass, with special music by the LWML Ladies Choir.
Pallbearers were Orville Horsch, Clifford Duske, Dennis
Mahlstedt, Fred Reimer, Harlan Dalbec, Larry Dalbec, Tom Dalbec, and Waytt
Shaw.
Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home
of Howard Lake, Minnesota.
