Dr. William R. Kehr obituary, 11/1/2003


Dr. William R. Kehr, age 89, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2003
in Surprise, Ariz.
Willima was born the son of John and Mary Kehr July 1,
1921 in Blue Earth, Minn.
After a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University
of Minnesota he served four years as a naval officer in the South Pacific.
He married Marie Sterner and they are blessed with three
children and five grandchildren.
After a master’s degree from Kansas State, and a Ph.D.
from the University of Minnesota, he served as head corn breeder for Del
Monte before joining the United States Department of Agriculture at the
University of Nebraska as research scientist and professor.
Bill mentored numerous graduate students from around the
world. He holds membership in many professional societies and is the recipient
of many awards including a fellowship in the American Association for the
Advancement of Science as well as the American Society of Agronomy.
He is listed in Who’s Who in Science, Who’s Who in the
World, Technology Today, and Leading Consultants in Technology.
The author or co-author of over 200 publications, he also
did much domestic and foreign consulting.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dr. William Kehr was Saturday,
Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul
L. Wolf was the Celebrant, and interment with military rites followed at
Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called Friday, Nov. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Chilson
Funeral Home in Winsted.
An American Legion ritual and a prayer service were also
conducted Friday evening, Nov. 14.
Honorary casketbearers were Sarah Stucky, Michelle Kehr,
Lindsey Kehr, Barbara Bittner, Kathy Dols and Tom Sterner.
Casketbearers were Michael Stucky, Geoffry Kehr, Jeff Sterner,
Jim Sterner, Greg Becker, and Richard Kehr.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
