Orlando Fred Gebhardt obituary, 1/20/04


Orlando Fred Gebhardt, age 79, of Victor Township, Wright
County died early Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 at his residence.
He was born April 29, 1924 in Winsted Township, McLeod
County, the son of Christian and Anna (Schroeder) Gebhardt.
Orlando was baptized June 1, 1924 at St. Peter’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Bergen Township, McLeod County, by the Rev. Walter Baumhefner.
He was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian
faith April 10, 1938 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergen
Township by the Rev. J.A. Schert.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army
during World War II.
Orlando Gebhardt and Marcella Latzig were united in holy
marriage May 7, 1948 at St. Mark parsonage in New Germany by the Rev. John
W. Meyer. God blessed their marriage with two children: Debra Vinkemeier
and Brad Gebhardt.
Orlando was formerly employed at Advance Machines, Tonka
Toys, and Medallion Kitchens. He also formerly had a bulk oil route for
Union 76.
At the present time, Orlando was a volunteer social driver
for McLeod County.
He was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Winsted, and belonged to American Legion Post 407, of which he
was a 50-year member.
Orlando is preceded in death by his parents Christian and
Anna Gebhardt, sisters Gladys Cohrs and Rosella Engelson; and brothers Roy,
Leonard, Christoph, and Alex Gebhardt.
Orlando is also preceded in death by father-in-law and
mother-in-law Paul and Margaret Latzig; step mother-in-law Selma Latzig;
brothers-in-law Elmer Latzig, Roy Latzig, Leland Schwartz, Maynard Ehrke,
Ewald Cohrs, Clifford Wolter, and Joe McQuay; and by sister-in-law Ellen
Latzig.
Orlando is survived by his wife Marcella M. Gebhardt; daughter
Debra (Robert) Vinkemeier of Mayer; son Bradley (Bonnie) Gebhardt of Winsted;
grandchildren Delilah (Jay) Ownbey and Jon Narr, and Shawn and Andrew Gebhardt;
and great grandsons Trevor and Cody Ownbey.
He is further survived by sister Cinderella McQuay of Tucson,
Ariz.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law RoseAnn Gebhardt of Belle Plaine,
Rosa Gebhardt of Cokato, Harold (Marie) Latzig of Lester Prairie, Roland
(Carol) Latzig of Norwood Young America, Martin (RuthAnn) Latzig of Howard
Lake, Lowell (Darlene) Latzig of New Germany, Martha (Hilbert) Ziermann
and Hildegarde Schwartz, all of Mayer; and Leona Latzig of Waconia; nieces,
nephews, many other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services for Orlando Gebhardt were Saturday, Jan.
24 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. The
Rev. Gerald L. Boldt officiated, and interment with military rites followed
at the Winsted Public Cemetery.
Friends called Friday, Jan. 23 at the Chilson Funeral Home
in Winsted from 4 to 8 p.m. An American Legion ritual was conducted at 7
p.m. A prayer service was at 7:30 p.m.
Marsha Christenson was the organist for the funeral service.
Carrie Knott and Michelle Powell sang a duet.
Honorary casketbearers were Shawn Gebhardt, Andrew Gebhardt,
Trevor Ownbey, Cody Ownbey, and Norville Thiel.
Casketbearers were Jon Narr, Delilah Ownbey, Jay Ownbey,
Kenneth Schwartz, Jeff Schwartz, Tom Kosek, Dennis Cohrs, and Walner Dietzel.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
