Funeral services celebrating the life of Hilton V. Kramer
of Waconia, formerly of Norwood Young America, were Friday, Feb. 20, 2004,
at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Norwood Young America.
Hilton entered his eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004
at the age of 84 days, one month, and five days at the Waconia Good Samaritan
Center, Waconia.
Hilton was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Young America Township,
the son of Herman and Bertha (Buckentin) Kramer. He was baptized Jan. 18,
1920 by the Rev. Baumhoefener, and confirmed into the faith March 25, 1934
by the Rev. Abraham, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Norwood Young America.
He attended St. John’s Parochial School through the eighth grade, and then
attended Central High School.
Hilton was united in marriage to Ruth Grimm June 15, 1948,
at St. John’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Kramer.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran his entire life,
and served on the board of stewards, school board, and was also the financial
secretary at one time. Hilton was also a member of the church choir, the
men’s club, and attended Saturday morning Bible class.
An avid goose and duck hunter, Hilton was also fond of
watching many other types of birds. He enjoyed biking and hiking, and in
his later years, enjoyed playing cards with friends.
Hilton is preceded in death by his parents, brother and
sister-in-law Harold and Eleanora Kramer, sister and brother-in-law Olga
and Edwin Halvorson, and brothers-in-law Marvin Huser and Donald Grimm.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Kramer of Waconia; daughters:
Linda Mensing (husband, Dale) of Lester Prairie, and Jane Herrmann (husband,
Dale) of Oakdale; and grandchildren: Sara Mensing (fiance Donovan Crew)
and Nathan Mensing.
He is further survived by sisters Laura Hatleli (husband,
Cyrus) or Rushford, and Helen Huser of Waconia; sister-in-law Dorothy Grimm
of Hamburg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Rev. David Winter officiated at the 2 p.m. funeral
service. The organist was Arthur Fuchs, and the congregational hymns were
“Abide With Me,” “Come Unto Me, Ye Weary,” and “Jesus
Lives, The Victory’s Won.” Soloist Chuck Thiel sang “Softly and
Tenderly” and “Beautiful Savior.”
Visitation was Thursday evening, Feb. 19, at the Paul-McBride
Funeral Chapel.
Casketbearers were Delbert Kramer, Gary Kramer, David Husor,
Joel Husor, Robert Tanke, and Tim Fahey. Interment was in the St. John’s
Lutheran cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in
Norwood Young America.
