Orville Henry Lutter obituary, 3/17/04


Orville Henry Lutter, age 85 of Howard Lake, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park.
Orville was born Sept. 8, 1918, at Howard Lake, the son of Charles and Bertha (Birkholz) Lutter. As a life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, he was baptized Oct. 1, 1918 by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen, and confirmed in his faith April 9, 1933 by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.
Orville was united in marriage to Evelyn Shepperd on Oct. 25, 1939, at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Seltz officiating. This union was blessed with three children.
The Lutter family made their home and livelihood on a farm north of Howard Lake. In addition to running the land and milking cows, Orville enjoyed raising horses, going to horse sales, and participating in horse shows.
Active in his church and community, Orville served St. James Lutheran Church and School on the board of education, and as an elder. He was a member of the creamery board and a Middleville Township supervisor.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bertha Lutter; wife Evelyn, brother Arvid, and brother-in-law Homer Peterson.
He is survived by his children: Merlyn and Kathy Lutter, Norman and Ardys Lutter, and Jean and Ricky Ostgulen; grandchildren: Lois Zeigler, Nancy and Doug Hasz, Janet and Dan Henjum, James and Stephanie Lutter, Joel Lutter, and Jil and Jason Slegh; and nine great-grandchildren.
Orville is further survived by two sisters: Verna Peterson and Luaine and Robert Lundeen; a sister-in-law, Lyla Lutter; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 20, 10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church of Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Special music was provided by soloist Marge Stueven. Nancy Butterfass served as organist.
Pallbearers were Ellis Lutter, Dennis Lutter, Winston Peterson, Jason Peterson, Van Lundeen, Dick Eckhoff, Albert Strohschein, Ed Curry, and Bob Berg. Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Visitation was Friday, March 19, 4 to 8 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake, and continued one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A prayer service was at 7 p.m. Friday.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
