Curtis M. Honebrink obituary, 10/21/05


Curtis M. Honebrink, age 73 of Mayer, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005 at his home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1931 in Camden Township, Carver County, the son of Louis F. Honebrink Sr. and Lillie W. (Williams) Honebrink.
Curtis was baptized Dec. 6, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. E. W. Erthal; and confirmed at the same church March 22, 1945 by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt. His confirmation verse was: “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”
After graduating from Waconia High School, Curt served two years in the U. S. Army. He was stationed in Kansas and Georgia for one year, then spent a year in Korea.
Curtis was united in marriage to Arlys H. Barlau Oct. 9, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. Gerhard Rische. This union was blessed with five children.
Curt farmed near Mayer until April 1963, when he began working as an electrician. He started his own business, Curt’s Electric, in 1968.
Curt and Arlys were instrumental in the planning and founding of Lutheran High School in Mayer. A lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, Curt served as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, Board of Education member, LHS delegate, and held a number of church offices.
He was involved in the Mayer Fire Department, Boosters Club, Baseball Club, and the city council, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Curt loved his God and Savior. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh.One of his last wishes was to take all the gnats and mosquitoes with him, because they always loved him.
His favorite pasttimes included playing cards, traveling, bowling, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Curt was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Honebrink; granddaughter Olivia Honebrink; parents Louis and Lillie Honebrink; parents-in-law Edward and Ida Barlau; and brothers-in-law Harold Klaustermeier, Galen Kramin, Vernon Farber, and Roger Barlau.
He is survived by his loving wife, Arlys; children and spouses: Randy Honebrink of Honolulu, Hawaii; Jill and Jon Zieroth of Waconia, Paul and Cammy Honebrink of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Thomas and Diane Honebrink of Oro Valley, Ariz.; and grandchildren: Geremy and Hattie Zieroth, Nicole Zieroth, Timothy Zieroth, Andrew Honebrink, and Max, Athena, and Beatrice Honebrink.
Curtis is further survived by brother and sister-in-law Louis and Melba Honebrink Jr. of Mayer; sisters Elaine Klaustermeier of Lester Prairie, and Eunice Kramin of Danube; stepmother Millie Honebrink of Belle Plaine; sisters-in-law Lorraine Farber of Watertown and Anne Barlau of Little Canada; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Services were Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Rev. Harold Schoubye officiating. Interment was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Mayer.
Casketbearers were nephews Dale Klaustermeier, Brian Honebrink, Lyle Honebrink, Steve Farber, Lee Farber, John Farber, David Farber, and Kurt Kramin.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
