Jerome Myles Nelson obituary, 11/7/05


Jerome Myles Nelson, age 65 of Darwin, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005 at his home in Darwin.
He was born July 31, 1940 in Litchfield, the son of Myles and Delia (Arnold) Nelson. He grew up in the Dassel area and graduated from the Dassel High School.
After graduation, Jerome was inducted into the US Army, where he served his country for two years. Jerome was proud of serving his country, and always flew the American flag in his front yard.
Jerome was married to Gail Putzier June 8, 1974 at the United Methodist Church in Litchfield. Together, they made their home in the Darwin and Dassel areas.
Jerome and Gail had two wonderful children, Holly Niska and Jason Nelson. Their spare time was spent enjoying their children, and they are now blessed with five wonderful grandchildren.
Jerome enjoyed his job at Storm Industries, JLCO, and Crest Healthcare of Dassel.
Trap shooting at both the Dassel Rod and Gun Club and the Darwin Rod and Gun Club were pasttimes that Jerome enjoyed. He also loved to hunt and fish, and especially enjoyed wrestling with the kids and grandchildren.
His greatest joy in life was the time he spent with his wife, Gail, his children, and his grandchildren. Jerome was a loving and caring man, who continuously gave love and support to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Jerome is survived by his wife, Gail; his children, Holly (Nils) Niska of Hutchinson, and Jason (Holly) of Litchfield; five grandchildren: Brennan and Karsen Niska, Layne, Hannah, and Aiden Nelson; brothers Lloyd Nelson of Dassel, Joe (Lona) Nelson of Dassel, and Doug (Muggs) Nelson of Dassel; and sisters Geri Jorges of Crystal, Pat Barritt of Crystal, Mary Jackson of Dassel, and Doris (Chet) Koser of Portland, Ore.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Jerome was preceded in death by his father, Myles; his sister, Janet Koelln; and many other loved ones.
A memorial service took place Thursday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with the Rev. John Peterson officiating. Interment was at the Dassel Cemetery.
A time to visit with the family took place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
