Arden Emil Breyer obituary, 10/30/06


Arden Emil Breyer, age 74, of Glencoe, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born May 25, 1932 in Bergen Township, the son of Emil and Martha (Kunkel) Breyer. Arden was baptized June 12, 1932 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. J.A. Schert, and confirmed into the faith April 14, 1946 at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Glencoe by the Rev. Alfred Streufert.
Arden graduated from Stevens Seminary High School in Glencoe in 1950.
He was united in marriage to Bernice Oltmann Aug. 1, 1952 at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Glencoe by the Rev. Sellwock.
Arden served as a corporal in the US Army during the Korean War, from 1952-1954, receiving an honorable discharge.
He was employed at the Howard Lake Creamery for 20 years, and retired from Pillsbury-Green Giant after 20 years of service as chief boiler engineer.
Arden was a member of the disabled Veterans of America, and a past member of the Plato Lions. He enjoyed being a member of the Pla-Mor Dancers and the Polka Lovers Klub of America, and he and Bernice enjoyed touring the country in their motor home. Arden also enjoyed snowmobiling and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elmer and Amanda Oltmann; brothers Arvid Breyer and Harold Breyer; brothers-in-law Chester Oltmann, Richard Oltmann, and Lawrence Witte; sister-in-law Dianne Breyer; niece baby Oltmann; and nephews Spencer Oltmann, Greg Peterson, and Carl Lehne.
Arden is survived by his wife, Bernice Breyer of Glencoe; children: Randall Breyer (wife Debbie) of Waverly, Cynthia Randt (husband Randy) of Waconia, Michele Miller (husband Greg) of Plato, Timothy Breyer (wife Julie) of Glencoe, Michael Breyer (wife Dianne) of Waconia, and Tricia Remus (husband Chris) of Apple Valley; grandchildren: Luke Breyer (wife Megan), Ellie O’Brien (husband Sean), Eric Randt, Amanda Randt, Melissa Lilienthal (husband Paul), Jodi Kuehn (husband Jason), Caitlin Miller, Todd Breyer, Tyler Breyer, Trevor Breyer, Joshua Breyer, Samuel Breyer, and Abigail Remus; and great-grandchildren: Jordan Breyer, Mackenzie Breyer, Lauren Lilienthal and baby (Luke) Breyer.
He is further survived by his siblings, Ernie Breyer (wife Jan), and Elaine Witte; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marianne Breyer, Violet Zebell (husband Clarence), Sylvia Nelson (husband Earl), Josephine Marklowitz (husband Ed), Lois Oltmann, Ona Lange (husband Bob) and Elmer Oltmann Jr. (wife Bev); as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. The organist was Mary Huebert and the soloist, Renae Odegaard, sang “On Eagle’s Wings.” The congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” Interment was in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe.
Visitation took place Wednesday evening, Nov. 1, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
Serving as casket bearers were Luke Breyer, Eric Randt, Melissa Lilienthal, Tyler Breyer, Josh Breyer, and Sam Breyer. The honorary casket bearers were Ellie O’Brien, Amanda Randt, Jodi Kuehn, Caitlin Miller, Todd Breyer, Trevor Breyer, and Abigail Remus.
Arrangements were by the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
