Alfred Emil Nelson obituary, 10/2/06


Alfred Emil Nelson, age 91, of Cokato, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at the Cokato Manor.
He was born Nov. 4, 1914 in French Lake, the son of Albert and Erriika Nelson. At the age of 15, Alfred served in the Conservation Corps Camps, near Isabella, Minn. He then moved to Detroit and worked for the Chevrolet Corporation.
Alfred moved back to French Lake to farm, and was married to Martha Johnson. Alfred and Martha had eight children. Martha passed away Jan. 1, 1994.
Following his retirement from farming, Alfred sold seed corn for Jacques.
Alfred enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, farming and gardening.
He served on the creamery board for Land O’ Lakes (First District), on the board of directors at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, was active with the Gideons, and was a current member of Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Cokato.
Alfred was married to Carol Weber Nov. 30, 1995. They made their home in Cokato.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Carol; eight children, Dennis (Anne) Nelson, Joyce (Richard) Rynders, Diane (David) Hoiland, Ronald (Gretchen) Nelson, Joanne Pyeske, Leslie (Gloria) Nelson, Clair (LuAnn) Nelson, and Arloueen (Michael) McGuire; and eight stepchildren, Brian (Shelly) Lynch, David (Shelly) Lynch, Ann (Charles) Horstmann, Richard (Lorie) Lynch, Gerald (Karen) Lynch, Patricia (Allan) Guennigsman, Colleen Lynch, and Maureen (Robert) McClanahan.
He is further survived by brothers and sisters, Mildred Saksa, Marcie Gerns, Willard Nelson, Vernon Nelson, and Ray Nelson; 22 grandchildren; 23 step grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Martha; Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Janel Rynders; a stepson, Daniel John Lynch; step grandson Samuel Lynch; son-in-law Dean Pyeske; brothers Clarence, Norman, Howard, Paul, and Eli; and sisters, Viola, Elsie. and Ardis.
Funeral service was Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lyndon Korhonen officiating. Music was by Deb Olson, and Pastor Lyndon and Linda Korhonen. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation took place Friday, Oct. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and continued Saturday for one hour prior to the funeral service.
Casket bearers were Holly Nelson, Steven Rynders, Derrick Hoiland, Jared Nelson, DeeAnn Johnson, Kelly McKnight, Mandy Nelson, and Matthew McGuire.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
