Dorothy Katharina Oestreich obituary, 7/1/06


Dorothy (Dorothea) Katharina Oestreich, age 93, of Howard Lake, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Care Center, Howard Lake.
She weas born March 27, 1913 in St. Paul, the daughter of Peter and Maria (Pusch) Merschdorf. Dorothy was baptized April 27, 1913 by the Rev. William Von Fischer at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Paul.
When Dorothy was about one year old, she was sent to live with Fred and Emma Shepperd on their farm in Howard Lake. She was confirmed in her faith Sept. 18, 1927 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, by the Rev. Moench.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Oliver W. Oestreich March 5, 1939 at St. John’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Groff. Their 49 years together were blessed with the birth of a son.
Oliver and Dorothy made their home and living on the Shepperd family farm, north of Howard Lake.
In 1964, they left the farm and moved into Howard Lake. Dorothy found employment at Tonka Toys and worked there for more than seven years. She also did seasonal work at Green Giant in Cokato for a number of years.
As a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, Dorothy assisted in the assembly of the church’s newsletter.
Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, and crocheting. For a number of years, she enjoyed spending winters in Zapata, Texas.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Marie Merschdorf, and Fred and Emma Shepperd; and her husband, Oliver W. Oestrich.
She is survived by her son, Dennis, and his wife, Corene; three grandchildren, Daniel Oestreich and wife Teresa, Donald Oestreich and wife Tammy, and Dellarae Oestreich; four great-grandchildren, Kayley Oestreich, Dwayne Oestreich, Trevor Oestreich, and Amy Kreutter; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral service was Wednesday, July 5 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfield officiating. Diane Johnson served as the organist. Interment was at the St. James Cemetery on Dutch Lake, Victor Township.
Pallbearers were Daniel Oestreich, Donald Oestreich, Dellarae Oestreich, Dwayne Oestreich, Trevor Oestreich, and Don Horsch. Honorary pallbearers were great-granddaughters Kayley Oestreich and Amy Kreutter.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.
