Barbara Ann Beise obituary, 6/23/07


Barbara Ann Beise, age 83, of Montevideo, died Saturday morning, June 23, 2007 at the Chippewa County-Montevideo hospital.
She was born Jan. 17, 1924 in Long Prairie, Minn., the daughter of Theo R. and Odah (Haney) Spellum. Barbara was baptized in St. Cloud, and confirmed in the Christian faith in Glencoe. She grew up in the Glencoe area and graduated from high school in Glencoe.
Barbara married Clyde W. Beise.
As a young woman, Barb assisted her mother in a nursing home operation in Lester Prairie, and continued there for 16 years. At the age of 48, she attended the University of Minnesota for chemical dependency counseling, and interned in Willmar.
She served as a chemical dependency counselor for Chippewa County, retiring in 1992.
Barb was very proud of the fact the she attained 43 years of sobriety and was an avid Alcoholics Anonymous supporter and member. She helped many individuals cope with their addiction, and attending AA meetings was a big part of her life.
An independent woman, Barb enjoyed vacationing in Mexico and traveling around the world. Some countries she visited were Greece, Ireland, Scotland, France, and England.
She enjoyed visiting with her friends and loved the company of her constant companion, ‘Blue,’ her cat.
Barb is survived by her daughter, Joan Patricia (Toney) Curtis of Gilbert, Minn.; her son, Bill (Laurie) Beise of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Olivia, Isaiah, and Elsa; nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Carol Lee; her husband; two sisters, Betty and Harriet; and three brothers, Maurice, Karl, and Jim.
Funeral service was Wednesday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Montevideo with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Interment took place Thursday, June 28 in her family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing, Iowa.
Arrangements were by the Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Montevideo.
