Geneva Emma Engelsmeier obituary, 7/16/07


Geneva Emma Engelsmeier, agge 83, of Rockford, died Monday, July 16, 2007 in Buffalo.
She was born May 16, 1924 in Wykoff, Minn., the daughter of Alwin and Gertrude (Lottes) Schneider. Geneva was baptized by the Rev. A. Ude June 15, 1924, and confirmed May 27th, 1937 by the same pastor at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wykoff.
Geneva was united in marriage to Norman F. Engelsmeier Nov. 9, 1946 by the Rev. A. F. Mock at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. They lived in Brownton and Green Isle before moving to Rockford in 1949.
A long-time employee of the Rockford State Bank, Geneva was a member of the Cross L.I.G.H.T. ladies group, choir, American Legion Auxiliary (Crow Valley Unity 628), and the Rockford Senior Citizens Club. She volunteered at Wise Penny Thrift Shoppe in Buffalo and the local Red Cross Bloodmobile.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, Alwin and Gertrude Schneider; husband, Norman; and brother, Loren.
She is survived by a son, David (Lois) Engelsmeier of Shell Knob, Mo.; grandson, Daniel Engelsmeier of Dallas, Texas; sister Lorna Talmo of Rochester; sister-in-law Marian Schneider of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Funeral service was Friday, July 20 at 2 p.m. at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rockford, with a one-hour visitation prior to the start of the service. Pastor Michael Barlow officiated. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery of Rockford.
Visitation was Thursday, July 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.
The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo served the family.
