Marvin Gallus obituary, 3/15/07


Marvin Gallus, age 76, of Watertown, died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at his home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1930 in Delano, the son of Anthony and Nellie (Fautsch) Gallus. Marvin attended a rural schoolhouse through the eighth grade.
Marvin and Delores Lachermeier were joined in holy marriage June 12, 1956 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with five children.
Marvin was stationed in the service on Angel Island in California for two years, until he was needed at home to help run the farm. He spent most of his life farming, something he enjoyed very much.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing cards. Summer camping trips to the lake with his children and grandchildren were his highlights. He always had time to spend with his 16 grandchildren and tell them stories of his hunting and fishing experiences. Marvin and Delores are also blessed with three great grandchildren.
In his recent retirement years, he enjoyed woodworking.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Delores; a son, Don and Renee Gallus of Watertown; daughters Patti and Jim Muckenhirn of Watertown, Carol and Loring Davis of Cokato, Kay and Tim O’Brien of Watertown, and Gail and Curt Heldt of Mayer; 16 grandchildren: Jennifer Bennett, Matthew Gallus, Nathan Gallus, Michael Muckenhirn, Rachel Anderson, David Muckenhirn, Brad Davis, Kevin Davis, Darin Davis, Austin Davis, Katie O’Brien, Justin O’Brien, Lucas O’Brien, Samantha Heldt, Neil Heldt, and Holly Heldt; and three great-grandchildren: Isabella Bennett, Ariana Bennett, and Malaika Gallus.
He is further survived by a sister, Gladys Socher; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Alfred and Betty Salonek, Tony and Peggy Lachermeier, and Clarence and Elaine Quast.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Nellie Gallus; his sister, Bernice Kittock; brothers-in-law Ray Kittock and Alex Socher; and mother-in-law and father-in-law Tony and Isabella Lachermeier.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, March 19 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Lawrence Blake officiating. Music was provided by the Immaculate Conception Church Choir. Interment was in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Delano American Legion Post 377.
Casket bearers and honorary casket bearers were Marvin’s grandchildren.
Arrangements were by the Iten’s Watertown Funeral Home.
