Lenore A. Johnson obituary, 4/19/07


Lenore A. Johnson, age 96, of Summit, N.J., formerly of Watertown, died Thursday April 19, 2007 at her home.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 1 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Robert Ericson officiating, and visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown.
Casket bearers are Jack Akins, Donald Akins, Dean Akins, Patrick McGlone, Steve Akins, and Mark Akins.
Lenore was born the daughter of Edwin and Amanda (Miller) Akins in Watertown, Oct. 13, 1910. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown.
She attended Sunnyside Country School on Quaas Road until 1923, when the family moved to Minneapolis. Lenore graduated from West High School in 1929. She then attended St. Cloud Normal School for one year.
Lenore married Earl L. Johnson of Hanley Falls, Minn. May 1, 1934. Lenore and Earl moved to Summit N.J., where Earl worked as an accountant for the New York City Postal Service.
Lenore graduated from the New York School of Interior Design and had a successful career as an interior designer until she was 85 years old. At that age, she and her niece, Leone McGlone, traveled to Sweden, where Lenore was able to find the homesteads of her grandparents.
Lenore was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Johnson; parents Edwin and Amanda Akins; and brothers Everett Akins and Clifford Akins.
She is survived by three nephews and one niece, Jack and Phyllis Akins of Plymouth, Donald and Marcia Akins of Edina, Dean and Doris Akins of Shorewood, and Leone and Patrick McGlone of Tonka Bay; and other relatives and friends.
Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
