Betty Jean Larson obituary, 5/17/07


Betty Jean “BJ” (Barber) Larson, age 65, of Dassel, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
A funeral service will take place Monday, May 21 at 1 p.m. at First Apostolic Lutheran Church, rural Cokato, conducted by Mark Koivisto. Interment will be at Cokato Finnish Cemetery.
Visitation was Sunday, May 20 from 4 to 9 p.m.at Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
BJ was born Jan. 28, 1942 in Belle Fourche, S.D. to Everett and Ina (Kosola) Barber. She grew up in Newell, S.D., moving to Minneapolis shortly after graduating from high school.
BJ has five children, two grandchildren, and a third grandchild expected in October. The Larson family has lived in California, Bloomington, Chaska, Dassel, and Cokato.
After being employed for many years at the hatchery in Dassel and Silver Lake, BJ then received her nurses aide certification and worked for nursing homes in the area.
She enjoyed cross stitch, latch hook, camping with her children, visiting with her many friends and family, and watching the Minnesota Twins on television.
BJ was a generous person who always placed the needs of others before her own.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Kevin Larson of San Francisco, Calif., Kelli (David) Schmidt of Buffalo, Keri (Paul) Wesley and Zachary of Cokato, and Ken (Patty) Larson and Emily of Cokato; mother Ina Barber of Buffalo; brothers Everett (Cathy) Barber of Hamilton, Mont., Robert Barber, and Gary (Nancy) Barber, all of Cokato; a sister, Mary Ann (Dick) Wuollet of Cokato; and many other family and friends.
BJ was welcomed into heaven by her son, Keith; an infant twin sister, Carol; her father; and her grandparents.
Funeral arrangements are by the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
