Meta Alice Lohse obituary, 6/21/07


Meta Alice Lohse, age 96, of Litchfield, died early Thursday morning, June 21, 2007 at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 25 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Donald Main officiating.Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation was Sunday, June 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, and will continue Monday at the church, one hour prior to the services.
Meta was born July 20, 1910 in Harvey Township, Meeker County, the daughter of Roy and Bertha (Behrens) Houk. Later that year, her parents bought a farm west of Manannah, which is where Meta grew up.
She attended grade school in Manannah and graduated, from Litchfield High School in 1928.
Meta was married to Edward Lohse from Forest City Jan. 29, 1929. To this union were born five sons and a daughter.
Edward and Meta rented several different farms in Meeker County, and in 1942, bought a farm near Manannah. In 1945, they bought two trucks and started a livestock and general trucking business. Meta drove trucks to South St. Paul. In 1957, they sold the trucks to their son, Robert, and in 1958, moved to Litchfield.
In 1953, Meta started working for Thulin Brothers Construction and was bookkeeper there for four years. She then worked a short time at Janousek Brothers Cafe and in 1959, went to work as bookkeeper in Dassel at Midwest Research until she retired after 17 years.
In 1969, Meta also started working nights at the VFW and was there for 17 years. She was a member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
Family was very important to Meta and always came first. She was a very strong, independent person, never asking for anything in return, and was a very young 96-year-old.
Meta loved to travel, cook, and listen to her favorite singer, Vince Gill. She enjoyed going for coffee uptown with friends, playing cards, and dancing.
Meta is survived by four sons and a daughter: Edward (and Lola) Lohse of Dassel, Norbert (and Jeanette) Lohse of Litchfield, Ronald (and Darlene) Lohse of Buffalo, James (and Judy) Lohse of Dassel, and Betty Lohse of Litchfield; former daughter-in-law Ramona Lohse; 14 grandchildren: Steven Lohse, Pennie Anderson, Bambie Hennes, Susan Anderson, David Lohse, Rick Lohse, Pam Lohse, Cynthia Hohl, Sandra Anderson, Bill Lohse, Tom Lohse, Todd Lohse, Timothy Lohse and Traci King; two step grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death, by her parents; husband; three brothers; a son, Robert; a daughter-in-law, Joyce; and a great-granddaughter, Ashlie Anderson.
The Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield is handling the arrangements.
