Doris M. VanTassel Obituary – 10/14/07


Doris M. VanTassel, age 95, of Watertown, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

She was born Jan. 21, 1912 in Strum, Wis., the daughter of Olaf and Dina (Rosholm) Indgjer. Doris was baptized Feb. 25, 1912 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum, Wis., and confirmed at the same church July 4, 1926

Doris was united in marriage to Alfred R. “Pat” VanTassel April 16, 1932 in Stillwater.

Doris was a lady whose priorities in life were well defined: her family, her friends, her church, and the community. Her three children, her nine grandchildren, and her 14 great-grandchildren were the foundation of her life.

Doris’ many long-time friends, both from Wisconsin and Minnesota, were a cherished blessing and were always a comfort to her. Her activities in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown were not only greatly appreciated by the congregation, but also served as a source of spiritual strength to her.

Her love and devotion to the Watertown community was exemplified by her extensive involvement in community and civic affairs.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred R. “Pat” VanTassel; parents Olaf and Dina Indgjer; sister Louise Ellingson; brothers Hartwell Indgjer, Arthur Indgjer, Clarence Indgjer, Oscar Indgjer, and Everett Indgjer; and sister Mabel Forbes.

She is survived by her loving family: daughters and sons-in-law Beverly and Roger Johnson of Webster, Wis., and Shirley and Sid Bechtel of Danbury, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Robert A. and Betty VanTassel of Excelsior; grandchildren Cathy and Rick Carlson, Doug and Cheryl Johnson, Tom and Jill Johnson, Stephanie Bechtel, Stacy and Chuck Smith, Scott Bechtel, Paul and Karissa VanTassel, Mary and Bill McMillan, John and Yuki Kihana-VanTassel; and great-grandchildren Bobby, Christie, Aly, Andy, Julia, Andy, Chris, Amanda, Storm, Alex, Kate, Chris, Matthew and Margaret.

Doris is further survived by her brother, Romaine Indgjer of Eau Claire, Wis.; sister-in-law Delores Indgjer of Eau Claire, Wis.; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was Thursday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Robert Ericson officiating. Visitation took place from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at church. Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown.

Doris’ grandchildren were the casket bearers.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
