Mary “Mae’ Babatz Obituary – 11/17/08


Mary J. “Mae” Babatz, age 94, formerly of Montrose, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

She was born Feb. 17, 1914, the daughter of Peter and Margaret Gallus Pollock.

Mary and William M. Babatz were joined in holy marriage Feb. 7, 1933, at St. Mary’s of Czestochowa Church of rural Delano. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Mary and William engaged in dairy farming southeast of Montrose, in Franklin Township, Wright County for many years. The couple moved into the city of Montrose in September of 1992.

Mae was a longtime, faithful member of The Church of St. Mary in Waverly.

She is survived by her loving children, James W. Babatz of Excelsior, Deloris M. (Charles) Klopp of Buffalo, and William J. (Marlette) Babatz Jr. of Montrose; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Babatz of Montrose; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William M. “Bill” Babatz Sr.; a son, Donald T. Babatz; grandsons Mark Babatz and Dennis Babatz; a daughter-in-law, Patricia C. Babatz; parents Peter and Margaret Pollock; a brother, Joe Pollock and by sisters, Laura Gnitka and Evelyn MacLean.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Father Timothy Cloutier was the celebrant. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation was Thursday, Nov. 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Casket bearers were Tim Babatz, Greg Babatz, Jeff Kalinowski, Charles Klopp, Alan Babatz, and Danny Miesen.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
