Duane Allen Meyer Obituary – 03/02/08


Duane Allen Meyer, age 53, of Darwin, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at the Birchwood Hospice House in Hutchinson.

He was born Aug. 15, 1954, in Amery, Wis., the son of Mervin and Donna (Hagen) Meyer. Duane was baptized as an infant, and confirmed in his youth in the Lutheran faith. He received his education in the Twin Cities and in northern Minnesota.

Duane resided in Minneapolis and Rockford, before moving to Darwin in 1997.

Duane was united in marriage to Monica Hagan July 18, 1998, at their home on Lake Washington in Meeker County. They shared nine years of marriage.

Duane held employment doing carpentry, construction work, and landscaping in the Delano and Rockford areas. He was a member of the Lake Washington Association, and the Darwin Rod and Gun Club. In his younger years, he was a member of Ducks Unlimited.

Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time in the outdoors. He also enjoyed welding, constructing, and building.

He was a people-person, and loved to teach people his skills, so they could eventually teach them to others. Duane especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Monica Meyer of Darwin; children Eric Meyer and his wife, Ruth, of Harris, Minn., and Jennifer Meyer of Litchfield; stepchildren Laurie Delgado and her husband, George, of Las Vegas, Nev., JoAnna Richards and her husband, Todd, of Ontario, Canada, Raymond Hagen of Grove City, and Denise Soules and her husband, Michael, of Fort Campbell, Ky.; grandchildren Cole Meyer, Austin Meyer, Mara Meyer, and Jasmine Meyer; and step grandchildren Joshua Delgado, Wyatt Richards, William Richards, Caleb Richards, Trinity Richards, and Faith Richards.

Duane is further survived by his father, Merv Meyer and his wife, Edna of Garrison, Minn.; sister Denise Aleckson and her husband, Terry of Pine River, Minn., stepsister Diane Aarthun and her husband, Mick; stepbrothers Greg Meyer and his wife, Lynn, Kevin Meyer, Doug Rose and his wife, Kathy, Daniel Rose and his wife, Barb, Jeff Lindorff, Terry Lindorff, Shelly Lindorff, and Scott Lindorff; sister-in-law Diane Meyer of Minneapolis; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Duane was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Swenson; brother David Meyer; and stepfather Jim Lindorff.

A memorial service took place Thursday, March 6 at 4 p.m. at the Hantge Funeral Chapel in Darwin with Vicki Toutges officiating.

Arrangements were by the Hantge Funeral Chapel in Darwin.
