Wilbert H. Zastrow Obituary – 07/26/08


Wilbert H. Zastrow, age 90, of Camden Township, Mayer, died Saturday July 26, 2008, at his residence.

He was born March 23, 1918, in Camden Twp., the son of William and Anna (Briesemeister) Zastrow. Wilbert was baptized April 21, 1918, and confirmed March 20, 1932, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. F. W. Erthal.

Wilbert was united in marriage to Anita Schwalbe Nov. 18, 1941, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt.

A wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, Wilbert had a passion for farming that brought him great joy in his life. He enjoyed yodeling and listening to music, and treasured the time he would go for a drive in the car to see how the crops were doing.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Anita; baby girl Zastrow; son Wayne Zastrow; grandson Edward Zastrow; great-grandson Isiah Devine; parents William and Anna Zastrow; sisters Alpha Burdorf and Helen Pawelk; and brother Linus Zastrow.

He is survived by his loving family: children and spouses Karen and Arvin Anderson of Minneapolis, Leonard Zastrow of Rochester, Renee and Tom Clabo of Hutchinson, Paulette and Allen Lund of St. Michael, Janet and Brad Swenson of Colman, S.D., and Jolene and Bill Devine of Laporte; 21 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Wilbert is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Lillian Zastrow of Amboy, Irene Jopp of Mayer, Verna Ketcher of Rockford, Ill., Hilton and Lyla Schwalbe of Buffalo, and Harold Schwalbe of Waconia; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Wednesday, July 30 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Rev. Lucas Woodford officiating. Interment was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Mayer.

Casket bearers were Richard Anderson, Benjamin Zieman, Terry Clabo, Christopher Lund, Paul Swenson, and Jason Devine.
