Ethel E. Emich Obituary – 12/15/2009


Ethel Emma Erna Emich, age 81, of Lester Prairie, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at the Auburn West Care Center in Waconia.

She was born April 3, 1928, in Hollywood Township, Carver County, the daughter of Elmer and Alvina (Braun) Lehrke Sr. Ethel was baptized April 13, 1928, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hollywood Twp. by Rev. Ernst; and confirmed by the same March 29, 1942.

Ethel was the valedictorian of the Watertown High School class of 1946.

She was united in marriage with Earl Emich July 7, 1949, at the Salem English Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. This union was blessed with daughters, Cheryl and Judy. Ethel suffered the death of her husband in December of 1963.

Ethel lived most of her life in Lester Prairie. She worked at Schwartz Manufacturing for many years, and retired from Kavouras, Inc. in 1995.

In her retirement years, Ethel enjoyed working at Shadowbrooke Golf Course.

She was a faithful member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. She was a charter member of the Lake Mary VFW Post 9232 Auxiliary since 1964, and was instrumental in Lester Prairie’s Community Chest.

Ethel was a voracious reader, an avid golfer, a talented baker, and passionate regarding anything antique. After her retirement, winters were spent with her daughter, Judy and son-in-law in San Diego. Ethel cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Earl, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Florence Narr.

Ethel is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Klemp (fiancé David Gutzmann) of St. Louis Park, and Judy Pease (husband Bruce and his son Damon) of Bonita, CA; grandchildren Christine Klemp (special friend Randy Ebert and his son Tyler) of Lester Prairie, and Julie Klemp-Wischnack (husband Ronald Jr. “Gus”) of Norwood Young America; and great-grandchildren Reed and Reese Wischnack.

She is further survived by a brother, Elmer Lehrke Jr. (wife Phyllis) of Waconia; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Doris Holtz of Arizona, and Eunice and William Ernst Sr. of Howard Lake; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services celebrating Ethel’s life were Saturday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. The organist was Mrs. Jane Holasek. Soloist Franklin Schoenke sang “Muede bin ich, geh zu ruh,” and soloist Alan Holasek sang “Going Home.” The congregational hymns included “Eternal Father Strong To Save” and “Be Still My Soul.” Interment was in the church cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers were David Gutzmann, Bruce Pease, Randy Ebert, Ronald Wischnack Jr., Joel Lehrke, and William Ernst Jr.
