Albert W. Lenzen – 10/26/09


Albert W. Lenzen, age 80, of Winsted, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at his residence.

He was born March 6, 1929, in Washington Lake Township, Sibley County, the son of Albert and Gertrude Heckmann Lenzen Sr. Albert was baptized April 14, 1929, at his parents’ residence by the Rev. J. Berkenkamp; and confirmed in the Christian faith March 29, 1942, at St. Paul’s Evangelical & Reformed Church in Hamburg.

He graduated from Central High School in 1948.

Albert honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.

Albert was joined in holy marriage to Myra B. Schumann April 6, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Al was employed for more than 30 years as a lineman/trouble shooter for NSP, retiring at age 60.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, and gardening.

Albert was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. He also was a former longtime volunteer fireman on the Norwood Fire Department, and belonged to the American Legion and the VFW.

Albert is survived by his loving children: Debra Lilienthal of Cass Lake, Douglas (Nancy) Lenzen of Eden Prairie, Dawn (Dennis) Beck, and Darcy (Russell) Schmitz, all of Litchfield; seven grandchildren: Peggy Beneke, Paul Lilienthal, Kyle Lenzen, Adam Beck, Tim Beck, Nikki Schmitz and John Schmitz; four great-grandchildren: Brittany and Garrett Beneke and Lauren and Ella Lilienthal; sisters-in-law Betty Glaeser of Norwood/Young America, and Lucille Farniok of Buffalo; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Myra B. Lenzen Jan. 10, 2009; and by his parents, Albert and Gertrude Lenzen Sr.

Funeral services took place Friday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted with the Rev. Mark Loder officiating. Special music was provided by Bruce Gatz, who sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “On Eagles’ Wings,” “In the Garden,” and “Amazing Grace.” Interment followed at the Winsted Public Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation was Thursday, Oct. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. The Norwood/Young America Fire Department attended as a group at 7 p.m., and an American Legion Ritual took place at 7:30 p.m.

Casket bearers were Troy Glaeser, Chris Farniok, Russel Heckmann, Mike Farniok, Correy Farniok, and Keith Farniok.
