Gary A. Major Obituary – 8/19/09


Gary Alan Major, age 52, of Howard Lake, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at the Buffalo Allina Hospital.

A memorial service will take place Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. There will be a luncheon following the memorial service.

Gary was born in Buffalo, and grew up on a farm north of Howard Lake, where he resided with his wife of 26 years, Beth.

He was self-employed as a scrap metal recycler.

Gary enjoyed finding old machinery, going to the flea market, thrashing shows, and toy tractor shows, and spending time with family and friends. Gary also enjoyed being with his three grandchildren, and working outside on scrap metal every chance he could.

He is survived by his wife, Beth (Brown); children Melissa (Aaron) Nordberg of Dassel, Heather (Gordon) Sullivan of Kimball, and Christopher Major of Norfolk, VA; and his three grandchildren, Brooke and Austin Nordberg of Dassel, and Luke Sullivan of Kimball.

Gary is further survived by his father, Zane (Bill) and Janice Major of Howard Lake; three sisters, Lynn (Paul) Euerle of Elk River, Lori (Randy) Olson of Monticello, and Lisa Major of Buffalo; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Mae (Williams) Major; and many aunts and uncles.
