Harold ‘Pete’ Weibel Obituary – 7/22/09


Harold James “Pete” Weibel, age 81, of Pillager, MN, formerly of Winsted, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at his residence.

He was born April 7, 1928, in Winsted, the son of Paul and Ellen Weibel.

At age 17, Pete joined the Navy and served from 1945-1949. His tour took to him Florida, California, Guantanamo Bay, and North Africa. Pete claimed they liked him so well, they asked him to return in 1950, and he served a second time, into 1954.

Pete met his wife, Muriel, in 1954. They started dating in 1956, and were married Sept. 13, 1958. God blessed their marriage with six children.

Carpentry/construction was Pete’s passion in life, following in his father’s footsteps. He was a life member of the Carpenters Union Local 1644.

He was also a life member of VFW Post 9232, and a member of Legion Post 407 in Winsted, where he previously served as commander. He also served as a justice of the peace.

After moving to Pillager in 2000, Pete became active with the Sylvan Township Road Board. He was elected to the position of road supervisor, and served from 2004 to 2008.

Pete will be remembered for his heart of gold.

He is survived by his loving wife, Muriel; children, Claude of Winsted, Eileen (Dave) Neumann of Lester Prairie, Harold Jr. (Denise) of Annandale, Shelly (Larry) Carroll of Alaska, and Brett (Sherri) of Waconia; grandchildren Jennifer, Cassandra, and Michael Hughes, Robert and Samantha Neumann, Madelyn, and Katie Weibel, James and Samuel Carroll, and Jadyn and Griffin Weibel; and two great-grandchildren.

Pete is further survived by four brothers; one sister; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ellen Weibel; a son, Scott; brothers and sisters Claude, Jeannette Moonen, Earl, George, Floyd, Stan, and Ruth and husband Carl Noreen.

A memorial service took place Sunday July, 26 at 4 p.m. at Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, conducted by Pete’s sons, Claude, Harold and Brett Weibel. Private interment with military rites followed at Winsted Public Cemetery.

Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted Sunday, July 26 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers were Greg, Dan, and Jon Weibel, Griffin Weibel, and Robert Neumann.
