Robert E. Boreen Obituary – 3/21/2010


Robert “Bob” Earl Boreen, age 83, of Dassel, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, April 3 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel, with the Rev. Keith Carlson officiating. Florine Osness will play piano, and Sheldon Hedin will sing. “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” and “If I Gained The World.” Interment of the urn will be at the Lake Arvilla Cemetery at a later date.

The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel is handling the arrangements.

Bob was born March 9, 1927, in Dassel, the son of Herbert “Hub” and Mayme (Koski) Boreen. He grew up in the Dassel area and graduated from the Dassel High School in 1945.

Upon graduating from high school, Bob was inducted into the US Army and served in the Japanese Occupation Force.

Bob was united in marriage to Betty Olson in 1947, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel. They made their home in Faribault for several years before moving back to Dassel in 1967.

Bob built two homes on Lake Washington, where he enjoyed spending time swimming, water skiing, and boating. Bob and Betty enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, loved to travel, and took several snowmobiling and downhill skiing trips. An adventurous person, Bob would try anything, from motorcycles and building his own iceboat, to hang gliding over Lake Washington.

He worked hard for over 49 years in construction, and for 36 of those years, he owned and operated his own construction business. He has worked on many projects around the community, including the covenant parsonage, Lakeside Apartments, and many homes in the Dassel area.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters Wendy (John) Isakson of Dassel and Linda Boreen of Minneapolis; grandson Jess Isakson; and a sister, Harriet (Eldon) Johnson of Chicago, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Calvin; and his grandparents.
