Lowell G. Hugo Obituary – 2/22/2010


Lowell Glenn Hugo, age 74, of Cokato, formerly of Dassel, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at the Cokato Manor.

A memorial service will take place Monday, March 1 at 7 p.m. at the Cokato Manor chapel, with Pastor Bruce Miller of First Baptist Church in Cokato officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Cancer Society or the Heart Fund.

Arrangements are by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.

Lowell was born Oct. 2, 1935, at Madison, WI, to Glenn and Ruth (Setzke) Hugo. When he was 15, the family moved to Edina, and Lowell graduated from Edina High School.

After high school, he worked at Edina Pure Oil.

Lowell married Gwenn J. Jones Nov. 29, 1957, at the Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Nestande officiating.

They first lived in Minneapolis, and when Lowell purchased the Standard Oil Station on Highway 13, they moved to Burnsville. They were there for six years, and then moved to Cokato.

While in Cokato, Lowell worked at Dura Supreme in Howard Lake, then in Winsted for Mid American Dairymen, retiring in 1997.

Lowell enjoyed cars and mechanics, and spent a lot of time tinkering in the garage. He had a soft spot for pets, especially his dogs. Lowell also enjoyed fishing and yard work.

He is survived by his wife, Gwenn of Dassel; children Jonalynn Hugo of Willmar, Jeff (Sharon) Hugo of Rosemount, and Jennine (Kevin) Heid of Elk River; and grandchildren Calvin Hugo of Waverly, Nick and Josh Hugo of Rosemount, and Ryan and Emily Heid of Elk River.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Jerry.
