Florence M. Mlynar Obituary – 1/15/2010

Florence (Tanke) Mlynar, age 79, of Lester Prairie, formerly of Norwood, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at the Glencoe Regional Long Term Care Hospice Unit.

She was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Young America Township, Carver County, the daughter of Edward and Martha (Oelfke) Tanke. Florence was baptized Sept. 14, 1930, at the Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church of Hamburg by the Rev. Heinrich J. Bouman; and confirmed at the same church April 2, 1944, by the Rev. Louis T. Wohlfeil.

Florence attended grade school her first three years at Carver County School Dist. 59 in Young America Township. This was a one-room schoolhouse with only two students, and she felt she received a tutored education. Grades four through eight were at the Emanuel Lutheran School at Hamburg.

During this time, she took piano lessons from Mrs. Noennig.

Florence graduated from Central High School in 1948. She cherished the Excellence in Reading Pin she received from the Auxiliary Unit of the American Legion of Norwood.

One cold evening in February 1955, a couple of Florence’s friends suggested that she go along with them for the evening. Because of a number of mutual friends, an acquaintance with her future husband began.

Florence was married to Ed Mlynar of Lester Prairie Nov. 12, 1955, by the Rev. Louis T. Wohlfeil at the Emanuel Ev. Luth. Church in Hamburg.

Florence was a lifelong bank teller/cashier in Norwood and Lester Prairie. After early retirement, she also worked as a cashier for 17 years at the ShadowBrooke Golf Course in Lester Prairie.

Her trademark was that of being a helping volunteer. If there was a fundraiser for a worthy cause in her church or community, Florence was there.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; sons Brad Mlynar (wife Nicki) of Eden Prairie, and their children, Kari and Andy; and Bob Mlynar (wife Jayne) of Aitkin, and their children, Kyle (wife Alyssa) of Roseau, and Brett (special friend Taylor) of Bismarck, ND; brothers Hillary Tanke (wife Audrey) of Norwood, and Robert Tanke (wife Audrey) of Northome; brother-in-law John Mlynar (wife Carol) of Hutchinson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Martha Tanke.

A celebration of Florence’s life took place Jan. 19 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with interment in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
