Lydia ‘Cecile’ Rotzien Obituary – 12/9/2010


Lydia “Cecile” Rotzien, age 101, of rural Dassel, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 16, 1909, in Des Lacs, ND, the daughter of Shannon and Effie (Terry) Waggoner. Lydia received her education at Des Lacs country school.

She was united in marriage to Delbert Rotzien Oct. 14, 1940, by the Justice of the Peace in Litchfield. This marriage was blessed with three children, LeRoy, Gary and Sharon.

Cecile and Delbert resided in rural Dassel, near Lake Jennie. They shared 49 years of marriage until Delbert passed away Jan. 12, 1990.

Cecile was a loving homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, vegetables and flowers; sewing, and baking. She was considered a great cook by her friends and family. Cecile especially enjoyed the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

When she needed assistance with her daily care, Cecile became a resident of Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel, in August of 2006.

She is survived by her: sons, LeRoy Rotzien and wife, Edna of Carmen, ID, and Gary Rotzien and wife, MaryAnn of Dassel; daughter Sharon (Shari) Schroeder of Plymouth; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mae Miller of Salmon, ID; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Delbert, Cecile was preceded in death by her parents, Shannon and Effie Waggoner; six brothers; a sister; and a grandson.

Funeral services took place Friday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. at the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson, with interment in the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.

The Rev. Steven Olson officiated. Organist was Shirley Holtz. Soloist David Skaar sang “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns included “Silent Night,” and “Rock of Ages.”

Casket bearers were Robert Waggoner, Tom Waggoner, Terry Waggoner, Galen Carlson, Robbie Carlson, and Glen Schumann.
