Franklin G. Roufs Obituary – 9/1/2010


Franklin George Roufs, age 77, of Winsted, died peacefully in his home of cancer Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, surrounded by family members.

He was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Winsted, the son of George and Agnes (Fasching) Roufs.

Frank was united in marriage to Helen Claire Raeker June 30, 1956. They were married for 16 years and blessed with seven children: Paul, Mary, Jane, Ann, Joan, Judi and Peter.

Helen died of cancer at the age of 39, in 1972.

Franklin was united in marriage to Theresa Marie Miller March 13, 1976. Their marriage was blessed with six children: Jonathon, Molly, Claire, Anthony, Andrew, and Jeanine.

Frank was a faithful, lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

He served in the US Army in Korea, volunteered for 22 years as a fireman for the Winsted Fire Dept., and was a member of the American Legion in Winsted.

Frank is also fondly remembered for his work as the local milkman. He also worked at the ATHC in Winsted for 23 years. He spent the last eight years of his life working in his home, alongside his wife, caring for elderly in adult foster care.

In addition to Helen, Frank was preceded in death by his parents, George and Agnes; stepmother Ida Roufs; a brother, Cletus; sisters Mae Stifter and Marietta Littfin; brothers and sisters-in-law Norbert Stifter, Mark Littfin, Melvin Miller, Sharon and Jim Seidl; Bill Raeker, Harvey Raeker, Roz and Barney Frederick, Jerry Raeker, Nell and Norbert Sauer, Vince O’Rourke and Tom Hance; and a son-in-law, Mike Parrow.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Theresa; and children Paul (Ruth); Mary; Jane (Kevin) Shaikoski; Ann; Joan (Robert) Mochinski; Judi (Darrell) Campbell; Peter (Shelley); Jonathon (Angela); Molly (Craig) Millerbernd; Claire (Mother Mary Clare); Anthony (Jill); Andrew (Amanda); and Jeanine.

He is also survived by grandchildren Katie (Dustin) Oster, Krista and Kyle Shaikoski; Dana (Shawn) Czmowski, Cara (Tim) Willems and Zachary Mochinski; Juanita (Josh) Stone, Michael and Joshua Parrow, Tim Sloane; Ellen, Annie, Isaac and Adam Roufs; Anastacia, Abigail, Emily, Isabelle and Benjamin Roufs; Carter, Hallie and Seth Millerbernd; Tyler, Madison and Alexa Roufs; and Coyle, Gideon and Elizabeth Roufs; and great-grandchildren Nolan and Jenna Czmowski; Bryan and Mariah Stone.

Frank is further survived by sisters Iona (Martin) Francis and Sister Elizabeth Roufs, OSB; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Doloris Roufs; Janet and Joe Egan; Barbara Miller; Roger Raeker; Toni O’Rourke; John and Lucille Raeker; Mary Hance; Genita Raeker; and Charlotte Raeker.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

Visitation was Friday, Sept. 3 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. and continued Saturday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.

Paul, Mary, Peter, Jonathon, Anthony and Andrew Roufs were pallbearers.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
