Janet L. Bender Obituary – 6/17/2011


Janet L. Bender, age 55, of Watertown, died Friday June 17, 2011, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

She was born Nov. 12, 1955, in Watertown, the daughter of Robert A. and Harriet E. (Hill) Johnson. Janet was baptized Dec. 4, 1955, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. J. Spomer; and confirmed at the same church March 22, 1969.

Janet was united in marriage with Mark F. Bender Oct. 17, 1981, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. Donald Taylor

A graduate of Watertown High School, Janet also received a bachelor of science degree at Mankato State University.

She was a long-time employee of Park Nicollet and Methodist Hospitals, as a registered nurse, and was an outstanding caregiver to everybody.

Janet was a member of St. Paul’s Ladies Aid and regularly attended St. Paul’s Bible classes.

She also enjoyed camping and snowmobiling.

Most of all, Janet was a loving wife, daughter, sister, and aunt.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Johnson; father-in-law Jerry Bender; and brother-in-law Ladd Bender.

Janet is survived by her loving husband, Mark, of Watertown; mother Harriet Johnson of Watertown; brothers and sisters-in-law David and Julie Johnson of Elk River, and Paul and Renae Johnson of Waconia; nieces Holly Johnson, and Sarah Johnson; mother-in-law Marlene Bender of Watertown; nephews Leighton and Rachel Bender, and Kory Bender; great niece Samantha Bender; aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was Tuesday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Paul Krentz officiating. Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown

Visitation was Monday, June 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.

Casket bearers were Leighton Bender, Kory Bender, Steve Gatz, Barry LaBounty, Joel Xavier, Denny Butcher, and Stuart Stahlke.
