Marceil ‘Muzzy’ Buss Obituary – 6/29/2011


Marceil M. “Muzzy” Buss, age 76, of Lester Prairie, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, June 29, 2011.

She was born Aug. 1, 1934, in South St. Paul, the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Shepard) Killinger. Marceil was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church, South St. Paul.

She graduated from South St. Paul High School in 1953.

Marceil and Llewellyn F. (Lew) Buss were married June 13, 1953, in Mason City, IA. Their marriage was blessed in the Catholic faith May 27, 1954, at the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, South St. Paul. They were blessed with five children.

Marceil and Llewellyn were involved in the newspaper business for nearly their entire career, working for the Velva, ND Journal with brother-in-law Jerry Jordahl; and the Granville, ND Herald. They owned the Braham, MN Journal, Onamia Independent, and the Lester Prairie News, operating the Lester Prairie News until their retirement in 2000.

Marceil was a typesetter for the newspaper, and there were none faster. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Christian Women (CCW) in Winsted, enjoyed putting puzzles together, her Dept. 56 Snow Village collection, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hazel; her parents-in-law, George and Josephine Buss; sisters Nona Jordahl and Glenna Speth; brothers-in-law Jerome Jordahl, John Speth, Anthony (Tony) Buss, Joseph Buss, and Ervin Buss; and sisters-in-law Lillian Killinger and Florence Buss.

Marceil is survived by her loving family: husband Lew; children LuAnn (Randall) Stender, Timothy (DeAnn) Buss, TerriLea (Greg) Bestul, Lynn (Laura) Buss, and Robert Buss (special friend Lisa); grandchildren Bethany Stender, Brandon Stender, Melissa Buss, Corey Buss, Megan Buss, Kimberly Bestul, Matthew Bestul, Alexander Bestul, Maren Buss, Rachel Buss, Bailey Buss and Gavin Buss; brother and sister, Wilbur “Bud” Killinger and Irene Horstman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Bonnie Killinger, Bruce Horstman, Joyce Buss, Katie Buss, Elizabeth “Betty” and Ted Hakanson; nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, July 2 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted with Fr. Tony Hesse as the celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday, July 1, from 4 to 8 p.m.at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a CCW Rosary at 7 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 8 p.m; and continued Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Casket bearers were Marceil’s grandsons, Brandon Stender, Corey Buss, Matthew Bestul, Alexander Bestul, Bailey Buss, and Gavin Buss.

Honorary casket bearers were Randall Stender and Greg Bestul.
