Betty Ann Kroells Obituary – 5/6/2011


Betty Ann Kroells, age 73, of Green Isle, died Friday May 6, 2011, at the Elim Home in Watertown.

She was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Cologne, the daughter of Harry and Hilda (Segler) Bruesehoff.Betty was baptized Jan. 1, 1938, at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Township, Cologne by the Rev. Herman AmEnd; and confirmed March 18, 1951, at the same church by the Rev. John Melchert.

Betty was united in marriage to Harlan P. Kroells Oct. 20, 1956, at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Twp., Cologne by the Rev. John Melchert.

Betty and Harlan moved to their farm in Green Isle in 1959.

A member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg, Betty served on the Ladies Circle.

She enjoyed bingo immensely, and was thought to have a horseshoe with her because she won so many games. She also enjoyed playing Tripoli with her sisters.

Betty was a good cook, known for her pancakes on Saturday, her pea soup, and lightning. She always asked her children how the grandkids were.

Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Kroells; father and mother, Harry and Hilda Bruesehoff; and brothers-in-law Martin Oelfke, Edward Deis, Milton Kroells, John Schultz, and Raymond Ische.

She is survived by her loving family; husband Harlan; children Randy (Bonnie) Kroells of Green Isle, Julie (Dean) Bachmann of Milica, Brian Kroells of Norwood Young America, Jennifer (Jason) Hoese of Watertown; grandchildren Ryan Kroells and special friend Maggie Harkins, Candace and Greg Jacobs, Roxanne and Oscar Nelson, Amanda Kroells, Colton Kroells, Ariel Bachmann, Eli Bachmann, Neenah Kroells, Josephine Kroells, Jessica Hoese, and Julia Hoese; a great-grandson, Harlan Nelson; and step-granddaughter and husband Neeka and Jeff Mohs.

Betty is further survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Mavis Deis of Shakopee, Marian and Ralph Schlegelmilch of Chaska, Harriet and Gordon Tellers of Cologne, and Charlotte Schultz of Lakeville; brothers and sister-in-law Harry Bruesehoff Jr., Daniel and Janette Bruesehoff, all of Cologne; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Esther Oelfke of Glencoe, Delores Ische, Lyla Kroells, all of Norwood Young America, and Wallace and Marlene Kroells of Green Isle; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral took place Monday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg with the Rev. Daniel R. Schnabel officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, May 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and continued Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Betty’s grandchildren were her casket bearers.
