Robert L. Duffy Obituary – 11/25/2012


Robert Leroy Duffy, age 86, of rural Waverly, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at the VA Health Care Systems in St. Cloud.

He was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Akeley, the son of James and Margaret Tunks Duffy.

Robert attended school in Akeley.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army as a cook on tugboats during World War II and the Korean War.

Robert was formerly employed with Electric Machinery of Minneapolis as a power generator field serviceman for many years, traveling all over the US, and to many other countries.

He enjoyed his family, farming, cooking, reading, carpentry, and was a general fixer-upper. Robert liked to play practical jokes and always had a story to tell.

He is survived by his wife, Diana J. Duffy; 10 children: Linda Duffy of Grove City, Michael (Dana) Duffy of Albertville, Kathy (Ed) Maas of Eden Valley, Ruth Anne Duffy of Lisbon, ND, Jim (De) Duffy of Glencoe, Pat (Curt) Sandquist of Watertown, Karla (Dan) Farrier of Zimmerman, Al (Shelley) Duffy of Howard Lake, Sue (Larry) Hudson of Boone, IA, and Don (Brenda) Duffy of Lester Prairie; 22 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Robert is further survived by two sisters, Irene James of Lebanon, OR, and Pat Plochocki of Columbia Heights; two brothers, Father Richard Duffy of Brazil, and John (Peggy) Duffy of Taylor Falls; Diana’s children and grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Duffy; his first wife, Barbara Duffy Gundersen; and by a brother, Charles Duffy.

Funeral services took place Thursday, Nov. 29 at 3 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Special music, “Home,” was provided by Peaches Baloro.

Vsitation was Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
