Dorothy W. Habstritt Obituary – 1/14/2012


Dorothy W. Habstritt, age 91, of Montrose, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at the Grangroth Riverside Comfort Home in Waverly. She was born Sept. 8, 1920 in Waverly, the daughter of Walter and Edna (Ramthun) Brabec.

Dorothy was confirmed July 21, 1935, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montrose. She was united in marriage to Ralph Habstritt Sept. 26, 1941. God blessed their marriage with one daughter.

Dorothy was a school teacher most of her life, teaching at many country schools and finishing her career at Montrose Elementary. She then went on to work at Kelly’s Market in Montrose. Dorothy enjoyed morning coffee with friends, and also enjoyed spending time with her two grandsons.

Dorothy was diagnosed with macular degeneration, which limited many things she could do. After a hip fracture in 2010, her life started to deteriorate and she moved to the Grangroth Riverside Comfort home, where she was cared for by Cindy Grangroth.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; parents, Walter and Edna Brabec; and a sister, Elvera Lindquist.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Nancy (Wayne) Oberlander of Montrose; two grandsons, Justin and Nathan Oberlander; sisters, Charlotte Nelson of Coon Rapids, and Betty Peterson of Buffalo; as well as special friend and caregiver Cindy Grangroth.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montrose. Pastor Robert Hellman officiated at the services, with music provided by Carol Wendorff.

Arrangements were by by Iten funeral Home in Delano.
