Arlyn B. Nelson Obituary – 9/21/2012


Arlyn B. Nelson, age 82, of Buffalo, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

She was born June 11, 1930, in Columbia Heights, the daughter of Theodore and Jennie Larsen Ostmoe.

Arlyn and Warren C. Nelson were joined in holy marriage Jan. 19, 1952, at First Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights. God blessed their marriage with five children.

Through the years, Arlyn always was interested and informed about local politics. She was the first women elected as a Wright County commissioner, and served 14 years on the Wright County Board.

As a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, Arlyn formerly sang in its choir. She also was a board member of SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education).

Arlyn was a 45-year sponsor of the Christian Children’s Fund, and a supporter of the Buffalo Community Orchestra.

Arlyn and Warren did extensive traveling in their retirement years, and especially enjoyed Minnesota’s North Shore.

Arlyn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Warren C. Nelson; children, Daniel Nelson, Rachel Nelson (Max Weber), Margaret Nelson (Klaas Vandersanden), and Maren Nelson (David Lawrie); grandchildren Kieley Taylor, Cody Taylor, Annika Josephson and their mother, Jordan Taylor; Marcus and Peter Vandersanden; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Matthew C. Nelson; her parents; a brother; and three sisters.

The funeral service took place Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Ted Vanderpan officiating. Visitation preceded the service, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.

Casket bearers were Cody Taylor, Marcus Vandersanden, Peter Vandersanden, Todd Stinson, Tod Hanson, Dean Nelson, and Daniel McClellan.
