Genevieve Cecelia Strunic, age 81, of Lester Prairie, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was born July 19, 1930, in Jordan, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Hennes) Gregory. Genevieve was baptized as an infant July 20, 1930, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Jordan. She received her education at St. John’s Parochial School in Jordan.
Genevieve was united in marriage to Jerome Strunic Nov. 29, 1947, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Jordan. The couple made their home in Alexandria and Lester Prairie.
Genevieve and Jerome shared over 56 years of marriage, until Jerome passed away Oct. 12, 2004. Soon after, Genevieve became a resident of St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted, in 2007.
In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Genevieve held employment at Tonka Toys in Mound and Young America Corporation in Norwood Young America.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
Genevieve enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and crocheting. She especially cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
Genevieve is survived by her children, Judy Hendershot and her husband, Lloyd, of Vining, Tom Strunic and his wife, Karen, of Arvada, CO, Terry Strunic of Parkers Prairie, Pat Martin and her husband, Don, of Minnetonka, Carol Vanacker of St. Paul, Gail Arens of Winsted, and Janet Birkholz and her special friend, Larry, of Port Charlotte, FL; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Gregory of Savage; sisters Lucille Schommer of Port Richie, FL, Clara Hartmann of Lakeville, and Florence Madsen of Tuscon, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
In addition to her husband, Jerome, Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Gregory.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, May 29, at 11 a.m, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Fr. Tony Hesse officiating. Organist was Alice Nowak. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Women,” and “Be Not Afraid.” Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were Keith Arens, Ben Strunic, Spencer Strunic, Elliot Strunic, and Angie Birkholz.
