Ellen C. Tormanen Obituary – 10/30/2012


Ellen Catherine (Aho) Tormanen, age 91, of Cokato, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Cokato Manor.

She was born to Charles and Minnie Aho Oct. 28, 1921, Middleville Township, Cokato. Ellen grew up in the Cokato area, attended rural Ojanpera School, and graduated from Cokato High School in 1939.

After she graduated from high school, Ellen stayed at home to help with work on the farm.

She was united in marriage to Edwin Tormanen April 12, 1947, at the Cokato Apostolic Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Minneapolis and Chaska, and returned to Cokato in 1952, where they farmed for 13 years before moving to the city of Cokato.

Ellen worked for the Blaha Grocery store and Tri Town Grocery, and was a custodian for the Cokato Museum for 27 and one-half years.

She is survived by her sisters, Esther Simonson, Lempi Koivisto, and Lorraine (Robert) Wisuri; brother-in-law Daniel (Arlene) Tormanen; sisters-in-law Eva Rukes, MaryAnn (Richard) Pierson, Lorraine Aho, and Agnes Tormanen; along with many nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brothers, Eino and Melvin Aho.

A funeral service took place Friday, Nov. 2 at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Dassel, followed by interment at the Cokato Finnish Cemetery.
