Louis J. Bury Obituary – 6/24/2013


Louis (Louie) John Bury, age 87, of Watertown, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Elim Home in Watertown.

He was born July 31, 1925, to Louis and Kathryn (Karels) Bury in Mayer.

Louie was a longtime employee of Minnesota Rubber.

He served in the Army during the Korean War, being honorably discharged March 16, 1954, at the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Louis was a member of the Watertown American Legion Eugene Earley Post 121.

He loved to fish and hunt. Time spent with family was a priority.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Kathryn Bury; grandson Andrew Bury; brother Dennis Bury; sisters and brothers-in-law Delores and Lester Ortloff, and Alice and Joseph Snicker; sisters-in-law Donna Bury and Florabell Bury; mother-in-law and father-in-law Susan and George Swartzer; brothers-in-law George Swartzer Jr., Tom Kuka Sr., Leo Blackketter, and John Swartzer; and sisters-in-law Mary Helen Swartzer, Laurie Swartzer, and Marguerite Swartzer.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Betty) (Swartzer); sons Larry (Ruth) Bury, Gary (Brenda) Bury, and Greg (Brenda) Bury; daughters Darlene (Larry) Mader, and Debbie (Jeff) Allison; grandchildren Jason Mader, Sarah (Tony) Brown, Keith (Lisa) Bury, Jill Swanson, Kristy (Ryan) Ebert, Christopher (Lori) Bury, Tanya Bury, Elissa Bury, Mitchell Bury, Tess (Duane) Smith, Branden (Lindsey) Bury, Anthony Bury, Amber Bury, Natalie Johnson, Mariah Bury, Amelia Bury, Isaac Bury, and Aaron Bury; and great-grandchildren Maria Brown, Logan Bury, Lydia Swanson, Brayden Bury, Lily Bury, Kalli Swanson, Jacob Johnson, Michael Bury, Evan Smith, and Caleb Bury.

Louis is further survived by brothers Les Bury and Ambrose Bury; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in rural Delano. Interment followed with military honorsin the church cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, June 26 in the church from 4 to 8 p.m., and continued Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Arrangements were with the Iten Funeral Home in Watertown.
