Marlyn W. Johnson Obituary – 2/15/2013


Marlyn Willis Johnson, age 83, formerly of Cokato, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born Aug. 8, 1929, to Earl and Signe (Swanson) Johnson, at Stockholm Township.Marlyn grew up on the family farm in Stockholm Township, and attended school there.

He served in the United States Marine Corps.

In 1957, Marlyn married Susan Ruth Vogel at the Knapp (North Crow River Lutheran) Church, rural Cokato. The couple lived in Cokato for a short time, and then resided in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area.

Marlyn was employed by North Central, Republic, and Northwest Airlines, retiring when he turned 62.

Marlyn and Susan loved to travel. They visited Japan, the United Kingdom, and enjoyed various tours in Canada. They also went on trips to New York City, Las Vegas, Branson, Disney World in Orlando, FL, and Marlyn’s favorite place, Hawaii.

Marlyn was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Signe; and wife Susan.

He is survived by his sons; Daniel of Minneapolis, and David of Inver Grove.

The funeral service took place Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at North Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Cokato.

There was visitation Friday, Feb. 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato, and one hour prior to service at the church Saturday. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato.
