Monica M. Remer Obituary – 1/31/2013


Monica M. Remer, age 72, of Waverly, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband and children, Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at her home.

She was born Oct. 17, 1940, in Silver Lake, the daughter of Bernard “Bennie” and Margaret (Nowak) Reznick, VanAllen.

Monica and Arnold L. Remer were joined in holy marriage July 11, 1959, at The Cathedral in St. Paul. God blessed their marriage with five children.

Monica loved to spend time with family and friends. She also enjoyed her dogs. Some of her other interests included fishing, planting flowers, gardening, listening to polka and old-time music, and feeding the squirrels and birds.

Her hugs and smiles have touched many, and she will be deeply missed.

Monica was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly and its serving circle.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Arnold L. “Arnie” Remer; four children: Debbie (Dave) Cartwright of Silver Lake, Gilbert Remer (Pat Lindquist) of Waverly, Tina (Roger) Gravelle of Montrose, and Sheldon Remer (Barb Dircz) of Howard Lake; grandchildren Jacob and Nikki Forcier, Tiffany (Mark) Torkelson, Amanda Goulet, Ryan, Brandon and Tara Gravelle, and Savannah Remer; and great-grandchildren Courtnie, Jack, Isaac, and Dylan Forcier, Brooke Mercado, Kaleb Torkelson, and Audrianna Wold.

She is further survived by a sister, Sandy (John) Bennett of Brooklyn Park; a brother, Johnny (Peggy) VanAllen of Delano; and special friend Doug DeMarais of Waverly.

Monica was preceded in death by a son, Arnold E. “Arnie” Remer Jr. in 1979; a step great-grandson, Tyler; her parents, Bernard “Bennie” Reznick and Margaret (Nowak) Reznick, VanAllen; father-in-law and mother-in-law Steve and Florence Remer; and by other loving relatives.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly with Father Kenneth O’Hotto as the celebrant. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly; and continued Friday morning, one hour prior to Mass.

Casket bearers were Gilbert Remer, Sheldon Remer, Roger Gravelle, David Cartwright, Jacob Forcier, Ryan Gravelle, and Brandon Gravelle.
