Alice Traxler Obituary – 1/10/2013


Alice Vera Hazel Traxler, age 102, of Cokato, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the Cokato Manor.

She was born Dec. 30, 1910, on a farm in rural Menomonie, WI, to Anna (Kuester) Meier and Carl Meier.

Alice first worked as a nurse’s aid at Menomonie Memorial Hospital.

She married Leonard Traxler in May 1935. They farmed in the rural Menomonie area and raised four children. During this time, Alice and her husband attended Peace Lutheran church in Menomonie, WI, where Alice was active in the Ladies Aid and church circle.

In 1983, they moved from the home farm to Cokato, where they were caretakers of the Cokato Senior apartments. Following retirement, they moved to Brainerd, and then to Park Rapids.

After Leonard’s death in 1998, Alice moved back to Cokato and lived at Cokato Manor until her passing.

In addition to her husband, Leonard, Alice was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; Alfred, Arthur, and Walter; six sisters; Lucy, Elsie, Irene, Selma, Edna and Ida; and a great-grandson, Leslie.

She is survived by her four children, Phyllis (Norman) Skottegard, David (Susan) Traxler, all of Park Rapids, Keith (Karen) Traxler of Chaska, and Joyce (Dale) Gage of Cokato; 15 grandchildren; Cheryl, Cindy, Wendy, Karen, Diana, John, Carl, Monica, Holly, Leonard, Aaron, Tony, Jeff, Julie and Becky; 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A time of gathering took place Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, with a service at 6:30 p.m.

Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
