Marsha Christenson Obituary – 10/19/2014


Marsha Kae (Mrs. Vernon) Christenson, age 74, of Winsted, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice House in Chaska.

She was born Feb. 26, 1940, in Buffalo Center, IA, the daughter of William and Bernice (Jurgeus) Harms.

Marsha graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1958.

She married Vernon R. Christenson Dec. 12, 1964, in Buffalo Center, IA. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Marsha graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA. Through the years, she served in several hospitals including St. Mary’s in Winsted, and at the Glencoe Hospital. She retired from nursing when she was 63.

Marsha started playing piano and organ at age 14 at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center, IA. Being a church and choir organist was her life! She also gave piano lessons to many area youth. In addition, Marsha played for the Winsted Area Community Choir

She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and co-chairman of St. Paul’s Sandwich Ministry.

Marsha loved her family, and enjoyed going to coffee with her friends. She was also fond of her cat “Cuddles,” She was a strong person with a big heart and a lot of compassion.

Marsha is survived by her husband, Vern; children Scott (Susan) Christenson, Beth Bartholomew and special friend Paul Becker, Ranae (Blaine) Eichstadt, and Darrin Christenson; grandchildren Scott Christenson Jr., Erik Eichstadt, Jakob Eichstadt and Paige Christenson; sisters Virginia (Brian) Juhl and Roxanne (David) Lewandowski; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters Marilyn Heyer and Beverly Harms.

A memorial service took place Thursday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

There was visitation Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, and also Thursday, one hour prior to the service.
