Jane E. Keith Obituary – 1/17/2014


Jane Elizabeth Keith, age 83, of Mankato, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

She was born May 28, 1930, in Morgan, to Walter and Francis (Unzeitig) Wandersee.

Jane married George Keith Aug. 25, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winnebago.

In 1955, Jane and George made their home in Cokato, where she worked for Fabri-Tek as a line supervisor. Together, the couple raised their five children, creating a great childhood for them and many other children.

Jane and George also operated the movie theater and created the homecoming dances in Cokato, making a fun environment for the youth.

Jane was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, and as a youth leader for the Boy Scouts of America. She loved to share her jalapeno jelly and seasoned salt.

In 1984, the couple started to winter in Yuma, AZ, the land they called, “God’s green earth.”

Jane will be missed by her children, Steve (Diane) Keith of Waconia, Linda (Ron) Flynn of Mankato, Calvin (Linda) Keith of California, and Lisa (Ted) Williams of Isanti; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Lorraine (Robert) Harty, Darlene Anderson, and Mary Rome; brother Dick (Phyllis) Wandersee; and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter Cindy; brothers Charles and James; and brothers-in-law Larry Anderson, Al Rome, and Bob Rome.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday Jan. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato. Inurnment will be later this spring at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday, Jan. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary, with a 6 p.m. prayer service; and continued Tuesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are preferred to the American Legion or the Disabled American Veterans.
