Lauretta M. Warne Obituary – 4/3/2014


Lauretta Marie (Zander) Warne, age 86, of Minneota, formerly of Bemidji and Howard Lake, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota.

The funeral service will take place Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m. at New Salem Lutheran Church, 7491 Island View Drive, NE, Turtle River, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Lauretta was born March 26, 1928, in Howard Lake, to Walter and Luella (Prigge) Zander.  She grew up in Howard Lake, and graduated from Howard Lake High School as class salutatorian in 1946. 

She was united in marriage to Raymond Warne Oct. 15, 1948, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister. 

Lauretta attended beauty school and operated a beauty parlor in her home. 

The Warnes moved to Long Lake in 1961, where Lauretta worked for the Long Lake State Bank and later as a school secretary. 

The family moved to Bemidji in 1971, where they owned and operated the Sports Haven Resort.  Lauretta also worked for the Department of Corrections. 

In addition, she and Raymond started a wholesale wildlife art business. 

After Raymond’s death in 1995, Lauretta stayed in Bemidji until health reasons caused her to move to Minneota in 2010, to be closer to her son, Lee. 

Lauretta enjoyed sewing, singing in choir, and playing piano.

She is survived by a daughter, Kay (and Jim) Palan of Kalamazoo, MI; son Lee (and Nancy) Warne of Marshall; grandchildren Matt (and Darcy) Palan, Mary Palan, Dan Palan (fiancée Becca), Andrew (and Bettina) Warne, Christopher (and Ariel) Warne, and Eric Warne, seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou Teske of Cokato; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. 

In addition to her husband, Raymond, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Edward, Bernard, and Ralph; and a great-grandson, Grant.
