Mary Kittelson Obituary – 10/31/2015


Mary Suzanne Kittelson, age 47, of Rockford, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015.

She was born Sept. 29, 1968, in Watertown.

Mary lived the majority of her life in Rockford, but she actually graduated from South High School in Minneapolis, in 1987.

She was united in marriage to Leland “Lee” Bruce Kittelson, Jr. Aug. 19, 1995, in Buffalo, and they were married 20 years.

Mary worked a variety of jobs, such as a nursing assistant, clerk positions, and in coffee shops. All of her jobs involved her generous service to others, and she was known for her smile and her laughter and her love of hats. Her nickname was “Mary Sunshine.”

A loving wife, Mary was devoted to her parents, and generous with her time with her siblings.

She is survived by her husband, Lee; her parents, Raymond and Irene Buffie of Rockford; sisters Beverly (Darrell) Koopman, and Jacquelyn Hansen; brothers Kenneth (Julie) Buffie, and Perry (Kimberly) Buffie; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.

A memorial service took place Thursday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at Our Father’s Lutheran Church in Rockford, with the Rev. Jon Rhodes officiating, and the Rev. Kimberly Buffie, from House of Grace in Montrose, preaching. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.

There was visitation Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the church from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with prayers at 6:30 p.m.; and continuing Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
