Kathleen Stieve Obituary – 12/9/2015


Kathleen A. ‘Kathy’ Stieve, age 74, of Mayer, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Rev. Adam Gless officiating. There will be visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Mayer.

Kathleen was born Dec. 9, 1941, in Hollywood Township, the daughter of Melvin and Rubina (Gehrbitz) Hensel. She was baptized Jan. 30, 1942, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp. by the Rev. Ernst; and later confirmed in the faith at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany.

Kathleen was united in marriage to Ronald A. Stieve July 16, 1960, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Weseloh.

Kathy loved her family. Her children and grandchildren always came first, and she was affectionately known by her grandchildren as Graham Cracker. She had a sassy sense of humor, and was proud of it.

Some of Kathy’s hobbies included gardening, crafting, and taking care of and feeding birds. She was an avid antique collector of many things, her most popular were her roosters and ruby stained glass. She had a love of her solar lights, her convertible, her salt shaker, as always using it, and was very proud of her yard. She was also an avid trap shooter and enjoyed shooting pool.

Kathy was a breast cancer survivor and participated in the Relay for Life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Stieve; parents Melvin and Rubina Hensel; a brother, Gerald Hensel; and special friend Mark Hussman.

Kathy is survived by her loving family: daughters and sons-in-law Tice and Bob McPadden of Mayer, and Shelly and Kevin Kahl of Cologne; grandchildren D’Laney McPadden, Taylor Kahl, Regan McPadden, and McKinna Kahl; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
