Donald W. Lohrke Obituary – 1/17/2016


Donald William Lohrke, age 91, of Winsted, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.

He was born April 30, 1924, in New Germany, Carver County, the son of Henry and Lillian (Pawelk) Lohrke.

Donald was baptized June 1, 1924, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany; instructed in the Lutheran catechism; and confirmed in the Christian faith April 10, 1938, at the same.

Donald farmed on the family homestead three miles east of Winsted for many years. He also worked at Green Giant in Winsted, and at The Blue Note in Winsted.

He enjoyed farming, playing the accordion, driving, and John Deere farm equipment.

Donald was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany.

He is survived by his nephews, Harlan Kieser, Darryl Kieser, and Todd Kieser, all of Winsted; and other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Arlene S. Kieser; a brother-in-law, Wally Kieser; and by a nephew, Kevin Kieser.

Funeral services took place Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with Pastor LeRoy LaPlant officiating. Interment followed at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery. Margel Kirchhoff was the organist for the funeral service.

There was visitation Tuesday, Jan. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued at the church Wednesday, one hour prior to the services.

Casket bearers were Jeremy Henning, Ryan Henning, Gary Schauer, Jeff Campbell, Willie Roufs, and Marlow Zellmann.
