Donald W. Anderson, age 90, of Alexandria, formerly of Howard Lake, died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the Ecumen Bethany Home in Alexandria, with his family by his side.
Don was born March 3, 1927, to Harry and Cleo (Berndt) Anderson in Dwight, ND.
He attended school in Dwight through the eighth grade. Don then helped on his parents’ family farm.
At 19 years old, he made his choice to serve the Lord and he faithfully served to his death.
In 1946, Don enlisted in the Navy. He sustained an injury while in training and received a medical discharge.
Donald married Dorothy Mae Dake Aug. 15, 1950, in Howard Lake. After their marriage, Don was drafted into the Army, and discharged in 1951.
Don farmed for a short time, and then worked in the farm implement business. He owned his own business, Anderson Equipment, in Howard Lake for a number of years.
Don and Dorothy spent many happy years in Springfield, MO, meeting many new friends. When health issues started arising, their family helped them move to Alexandria, where they had the last several years together.
Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; children: Donna (David) Johnson of Ashby, Donald L. (Patty) Anderson of Isanti, Marlene (Richard) Johnson of Hugo, and Patty (Curt) Henderson of Minnetrista; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren each loved dearly!
He is further survived by four siblings: DeLoris Anderson, Mavis Morgan, Harry Jr. (Doris) Anderson, and Dwight (Janie) Anderson; and very special friends, Melissa and Randy Braund and their family.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Anderson; his parents; daughter-in-law Kristin Anderson; granddaughter Alexis (Lexie) Anderson; brother Elwood Anderson; sister Elaine Wold; and brothers-in-law Earl Wold, and Tom Morgan.
The funeral service took place Friday, March 31 at 1 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, with burial at the Burr Oak Cemetery.
