Eugene Barfknecht Obituary – 10/19/2017


Eugene H. “Gene” Barfknecht, age 85, of Delano, passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at The Estates of Delano.

He was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Maple Plain, to Gust A. and Ruby (Wandersee) Barfknecht.

Gene worked for the City of Delano for more than 24 years.

He liked Farmall tractors, gardening, fishing and hunting; enjoyed listening and dancing to Polka music; and loved his dogs.

Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Aurelia “Bits” (Meuleners).

He is survived by his wife, Marge (Klaers); children Liane (Rick) Oanes, Loren, Lynn (Mike) Hallett, Larry, Lori (Doug) Bernick, Lyle, Bryan (Christy) Lee, Mike (Rachelle), and Steve; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Gene is further survived by siblings Janet Hamilton, and Nancy Pedersen; sisters-in-law Sue Klaers, Marcy (Leon) Wickenhauser, and Irene Meuleners; brother-in-law Charles Moore; and aunt Norma Wandersee.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano.

There was visitation Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 3:30 p.m. KC rosary service; and continued Monday in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the Mass. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
